Information on how We came to Bee, what we are doing now, and our Quiltin' plans for the future

The idea for We Bee Quiltin' began long before it became a reality. I, Debi (which means bee), became interested in sewing as a child, having enjoyed the privilege of learning the hobby from my mother; who would also let me help in decorating our home. Many different arts and crafts interested me as I grew up, but the one that has continued to attract me has been quilting, which combines my love of sewing and home decorating.
My first two quilts were copied from a book, which became the first in my ever-growing library of quilts and crafts related media. Then, using graph paper and color pencils, I began designing my own quilts and, now, will only occasionally copy one from a book. It was while teaching my friend to quilt, that the idea came about to start a business. In 2001, with my husband’s backing, my friend’s encouragement, and her husband’s technical assistance, We Bee Quiltin’ was launched as a home-based internet business. And I now design most of my quilts with a quilt design program for the computer.

With the desire to pass on the art and love of quilting to younger generations, my main products were Kwilt Kits for Kids, a series of wall quilts that depicted things of interest to children. These kits include everything needed, (even the batting and thread), to complete the project. They have been successful and continue to be one of our top sellers.

In the succeeding years, my design skills have turned to Stained Glass Quilts, which have a timeless beauty and attraction for people of all ages. With the right type of fabric and ¼” bias tape “leading” they look very much like the stained glass windows they are meant to resemble. These new designs had quickly become my best sellers.
